She went back to the kitchen and waited for Grandma’s return. She studied the dough pieces and reflected on the sorghum syrup. She remembered all the things Grandma did to make her pies.
Sarah studied every move as she counted Grandma’s progress. Soon five empty pie shells sat ready for filling. More balls of dough waited to become the top crusts of the apple pies.
Excerpt: Sarah sniffed the cinnamon scented air and noticed the sugar coated apple slices filling a large bowl. Balls of pie dough sat at the end of the table. She thought about tasting one of the tart apple slices.
